Trashmail unwanted at online shop!

Post by Saxtus » 19 Dec 2009, 02:12

It appears that people use Trashmail for fraud purposes. I found it out the hard way...

I've tried yesterday to buy something from http://www.direct4drive.com/
I had already done the last year two purchases from that store (it was going by name onlinekeystore.com by that time), using my gmail address but few months ago and as I fear of them leaking my main address, I've replaced it with a trashmail.net one.

I put everything I wanted at the shop's basket and checkout normally using my credit card.
The credit card was charged automatically and I received confirmation mail.

So far so good.

Few hours later I receive this e-mail:
RK MEDIA GROUP PTE LTD has requested that you update your billing information.
Comments: Hello,

u are using a trashmail.net email which isnt usual for a normal customer.

Please read our mail and answer to proofe u are the real owner from the account.

Regards
D4D - Team
Followed by this e-mail:
Dear customer,

Thank you for your order.

Our Anti-Fraud 2co tool reported us that you are using disposable
email addresses.

Your order has a risk of 10 which is the highest risk.

Thats why we have to check if you are the real owner of your credit card.

We have to do this to protect us from fraud.

Please send us the required documents as a copy via Email.

It could be a PHOTO (PHOTO AND NOT SCAN) of the front side of your
credit card and also photo id card/driving license.

It must be an official document.

Once we have the documents we will send you the ordered product.

If u dont want to send us the document we will refund u because of
fraud risk and will ban your credit card, account and IP.

Thank you very much for your understanding.

Kind regards

Direct4Drive

I explained them that I try to avoid spam and that's the reason I use trashmail and I sent them the proofs they asked.
Few minutes later I got the following answer:
hi,

reason is because we can also only send to payment email which no
longer exists so you will always have problems getting your keys,
please change your email for a normal email or we cannot do business
anymore.

thanks
D4D
Followed by this:
A credit/refund has been issued on the following order.

Sale: xxxxxxxxxx
Amount: xx.xx

Additional comments: canceled

A refund can be issued by 2Checkout for various reasons, including:

1) Requested by the cardholder.
2) Requested by the vendor.
3) Failed internal fraud checking.

Your refund should appear on your credit card/bank statement within the next 7-10 days.
I did what they wanted yet they canceled my order anyway...
What else I could do... I've created a forward e-mail address at my own server as for me was as normal as it can get (as anyone can make gmail.com addresses and I couldn't understand their definition of "normal") and updated my profile at their site.
After that I've just tried to do my order again, only to find out that they blocked credit card checkout for me (or for entire IP region, I haven't checked) and allowed only Bank transfer.

When I e-mailed them back, asking for them to explain the situation, I've received this e-mail:
Hi

We have received multiple fraud attempts on many levels from these
type of addresses so we have banned them indefinitely across the site
so you cannot get serial emails sent to those addresses. We will not
spam you with needless messages we only send newsletters to
subscribers and is opt in not opt out
But still I was not be able to checkout using credit card.
After that I kept sending them e-mails trying to explain what I am trying and what is happening, even using screenshot, but they either didn't understood or didn't care.

An hour later, after trying for one last time in case they unblocked me, I got this error message while trying to checkout:
"You are not allowed to continue the checkout procedure! Please apply to the store administrator for details."

I sent them a last e-mail about this, asking if it's on-purpose or an error, but I never got an answer.
I presume I got banned...

Anyway, after that I got to another online shop, used the .de alias and everything was ok.
I thanked them and I am looking to buy more stuff from them in the future.

I wonder how many people are using Trashmail to fraud others...

Hopefully that was entertaining reading, although for me was not as entertaining as it seems!

Sorry for my English if I am making mistakes, but it isn't my native language.

I had a similar experience some time ago. Fact is, that a few systems don't accept particular e-mail addresses, and this in not limited to trashmail. One of my ordinary GMX-Addresses was also rejected once or twice in the past. And many hotmail users might know this problem as well.

My personal solution is quite simple: If someone want to refuse any of my addresses, they will not be able to sell anything to me.

Well, as you read, they gave me hope at first, when they asked for my ID and CC proof.
I wonder why to do that if wasn't going to help because of my email address...

Go figure.

Yes, this is somewhat strange. Maybe an enterprise policy that inhibits the acceptance of trashmail addresses, but OTOH an employee that wanted to help you anyway.

I guess you're right.

Weird policy, they want us to trust them both our original e-mail and our money, without knowing anything about them or at least having a privacy policy somewhere (isn't that illegal?)...
Well, if they want both, they get nothing!

Don't care about that. Soon TrashMail.net will propose own domain names.

Yeah. I completely agree. It's very strange that our money isn't good anymore. We wan't to send you adverts and spam, every day and sell your email to 100 direct marketing companies. Well, luckily net is full of shops and you can select where you want to buy your products. They can have what ever policy they like.
