Can't insert disposable address

Post by Paul44070 » 24 Mar 2011, 21:56

I just can't seem to generate and paste a disposable address when needed (version 2.5.2).
I get the message "Not logged in or expired session", but I don't see what more I can do.
I use the Firefox Tools > Trashmail > Switch Login
and it shows me "Logged in" after entering my Username and Password.

But if I immediately try to use Paste Disposable Address on a site, or use the Trashmail Address Manager, I get the message that I'm not logged in.
I have successfully generated an address by logging in at Trashmail.net, and creating an address there.

I've used the "Switch Login" multiple times, and always get the same result.
First I'm logged in, and then when I try to use it, I'm not logged in.

Hello,

this is very strange. Did you disabled maybe cookies usage?
You can access to about:config and re-check all parameters with the name extensions.trashmail.*
Maybe you see something what looks strange?

I installed the Trashmail extension in a different Firefox profile, with the 3 other extensions in that profile disabled.
After restarting Firefox, I entered my Username and Password for Trashmail.
A Trashmail.net cookie named "_csuid" was created:
16 character hex value, expires 10/3/2028

about:config for the new profile:
(items not in bold are "default"; bold items are "user set")

extensions.trashmail.addresses
extensions.trashmail.challenge_response;0
extensions.trashmail.current_version;2.5.2
extensions.trashmail.debugMode;0
extensions.trashmail.domainname;trashmail.net
extensions.trashmail.email_prefix;fox_
extensions.trashmail.forwards;2
extensions.trashmail.lifespan;7
extensions.trashmail.notify;true
extensions.trashmail.random_alias_length;6
extensions.trashmail.real_address;[email protected]
extensions.trashmail.real_email_list;["[email protected]"]
extensions.trashmail.send_url;true
extensions.trashmail.show_menu_icon;true
extensions.trashmail.show_paste_previous_menuitem;true
extensions.trashmail.show_statusbar_icon_address_manager;true
extensions.trashmail.show_statusbar_icon_options;false
extensions.trashmail.username;xxxxxxxxxx
extensions.trashmail.welcomeDialogShown;true

Every time I start a new Firefox session with this profile, I have to Login before I can attempt to paste a new disposable address.
I'm guessing that's the way it's designed to work.
I'm never successful in pasting a disposable address.
I'm not logged in or session expired.
------------------
My usual Firefox profile:
(The extension in this profile was updated from v2.0.4)
I do not have the above cookie ("_csuid") in this profile.
I am not asked to Login whenever I try to paste a disposable address, using this profile.
I'm just told that I'm not logged in after the attempt.
Even after using Tools > Trashmail > Switch Login to login successfully, the "_csuid" cookie does not exist.

In this profile I have the trashmail.net cookies:
trashmail_delete_msg
trashmail_whitelisting
trashmail_life_span
trashmail_nb_redirections
trashmail_dest_email
trashmail_domain

With this profile, about:config shows the following differences from above:
extensions.trashmail.addresses;[] (<-- I'm not sure why the [] is here, as a "Value")
extensions.trashmail.email_prefix;tmp_ (<-- Of course, I set this)
extensions.trashmail.notify;false
extensions.trashmail.show_statusbar_icon_address_manager;false

EDIT: I notice in another post, talk about "passwords" being saved in Firefox.
I do not have Firefox save passwords. Could that be the problem?
EDIT #2: I guess passwords aren't involved. Even allowing Firefox to save passwords didn't help, although there is a saved password for Trashmail (Registration).

The problem comes from the Mozillas internal Password manager:
You have to use it.
Check please this posting:
https://ssl.trashmail.net/forum/viewtop ... f=2&t=2038

You have to check the option to "Save passwords" in the preferences of Firefox. Once you use it, you are not forced to enter each time you start firefox your master password.

Switch login is currently not working if you changed your password because there is a bug. As workaround you have to delete the existing entry in Mozillas FF Password Manager.
I'm not happy about that. Mozilla forced us to use their password manager. Version 2.5.0 encrypted the passwords and used the preferences. A Mozilla reviewer refused to give approval because we are not using their password manager.
So we had to store now the passwords into the password manager or our new add-on versions will no more be listed at mozilla.org.

I have it working now, but what I had to do (in step 3) makes no sense to me.

1)Tools > Options > Security tab
Check mark "Remember passwords for sites"

2)Tools > Options > Privacy tab
Check mark "Accept cookies from sites"
You can leave unchecked: "Accept third-party cookies", if desired.
If "Clear history when Firefox closes" is check marked, then click on the "Settings..." button and make sure that "Saved Passwords" is NOT checked.

3) Tools > Options > Privacy tab
click the "Exceptions..." button for cookies
In the "Address of web site:" box, put
trashmail.net
and then click on the "Allow" button.
Click Close.
Click OK.
----
Step 3 is necessary for me to paste a disposable email address into a box.
If I remove "trashmail.net" from that "Allow" list, I can no longer paste email addresses.
If I put it back in the list, it works again.
I don't know why. I already allow cookies with the check box in step 2, above.
This step was required for me, in my 2 Firefox 3.6 profiles, and in my Firefox 4 profile too.

I have some remarks to the post before:

1)Tools > Options > Security tab
You don't need to check mark "Remember passwords for sites"

2)Tools > Options > Privacy tab
3) Tools > Options > Privacy tab
You can do at given in the post before.
But if you have a Cookie Manager you can do it more secure. You have to allow cookies from trashmail.net for ever. If the Cookie Manager has a function to set the cookies to a white list, you have no provlems, when you clear the history in firefox.

It works for me. Ihope it'll help others.

The "Switch login" bug has been fixed.

Please download the newest version here:

I was having a similar problem and read what Paul44070 did and added an exception to always allow cookies from "trashmail.net" as he suggested and everything now seems to be working as intended.
thank you Paul44070

Instead of using the "Exceptions..." button, and adding trashmail.net to the "Allow" list, it will also work if you just allow 3rd Party cookies to be saved.

To me, that may mean that there's another web address, besides trashmail.net, that wants to access the trashmail.net cookie(s).
Putting trashmail.net in the Exceptions > Allow list, might be allowing 3rd party access to the cookie.
So, Trashmail support, is there another site that needs to access the cookie(s) besides trashmail.net?

Thanks very much for your advice. I put your advice directly on the front page on mozilla.org:
