Dear TrashMail users,
we have made a change this week-end, that we rewrite the FROM and TO headers, as more and more email services (like Outlook.com and Google Mail) are calculating a spam score which was more and more negative for TrashMail:
They check the FROM and TO header, and they check if it pass their DKIM policy validation.
If that fails, they reject forwarded emails, which could then get lost (for automatic emails).
Unfortunately this breaks S/MIME signatures. As Google Mail and Outlook are powerful email service providers (with high authority), we were forced to make this change.

Re: Rewriting FROM and TO header
I just built in a switch that you can now enable disable the FROM and TO rewriting in the web address manager in the account settings.

Re: Rewriting FROM and TO header
Thanks.
The new option "Rewrite FROM and TO headers" seems to have the following effect:
When it's ON, emails have these headers:
FROM: "Sender's name" <my Trashmail email>
TO: <my real email>
When it's OFF, emails have these headers:
FROM: "Sender's name" <sender's email> via Trashmail.com
TO: <my real email>
However, the OFF behavior is different from what it USED to be (before Oct 31), which was:
FROM: "Sender's name" <sender's email> [via Trashmail.com]
TO: <my Trashmail email>
It's not a big problem now, but still, is it possible to restore this old TO field? I don't use Outlook, Hotmail, etc.

Re: Rewriting FROM and TO header
Currently it seems that no email from or via trashmail.com are delivered to Outlook at all. - Microsoft is probably blocking all emails.
Re: Rewriting FROM and TO header
After thinking this for a while. Wouldn't it be just better to provide IMAP, it would allow getting around all of these annoying forwarding problems and deliverability issues, which are being seen with the major cloud providers. Which make email deliverability almost impossible for smaller players.
Just wondering ...

Re: Rewriting FROM and TO header
IMAP/POP3 would significantly increase the storage needs.
Re: Rewriting FROM and TO header
Does this Rewriting have anything to do with me not getting my copies of the 3 emails that I sent today?
Can I assume that the recipients are not getting their emails either.

Re: Rewriting FROM and TO header
The new, separate "Rewrite FROM" and "Rewrite TO" options work great so far. Thanks!
Re: Rewriting FROM and TO header
That is not exactly what I am seeing.user2p wrote: ↑14 Nov 2020, 03:07

I had both FROM and TO checked under the "Email processor" tab.
In the From field in my emails I get.
Senders Name (by Trashmail.com) <myTrashmailAddress>
Personally "via" would be better than "by" but on the other hand do we really need "Trashmail" mentioned at all?
Or is "Trashmail" being mentioned because I have FROM and TO checked under "Email processor".
The word "by" implies that Trashmail is the author (which it is not).
The word "via" means the email is coming through Trashmail (which it is).
Re: Rewriting FROM and TO header
Please try now again, you should now see the original sender email address.
